Yes, says Massimiliano Di Ventra, a physicist and computer scientist at the University of California, San diego. His team has built a memcomputing prototype with standard electronics that operate at room temperature.

Memcomputing is a novel non-Turing paradigm of computation that uses interacting memory cells (memprocessors for short) to store

and process information on the same physical platform. It was recently proven mathematically that memcomputing machines have the same computational power of nondeterministic Turing machines.

#IBM Improves Solar Forecasts with Machine learning Today IBM Research announced that solar and wind forecasts produced using machine learning

and other cognitive computing technologies are proving to be as much as 30 percent more accurate than ones created using conventional approaches.

Part of a research program funded the by the U s. Department of energy Sunshot Initiative, the breakthrough results suggest new ways to optimize solar resources as they are integrated increasingly into the nation energy systems.

By continuously training itself using historical records from thousands of weather stations and real time measurements, IBM system combines predictions from a number of weather models with geographic information and other data to produce the most accurate forecasts from minutes to weeks ahead,

explained Dr. Siyuan Lu, Physical Analytics Researcher at IBM. IBM also announced that for a limited time it will provide foundational solar forecasts at five-kilometer spatial resolution to help government agencies

and other organizations in the lower 48 states best evaluate their impact on supply and demand as well as operations.

Entering the third year, IBM researchers worked with academic, government and industry collaborators to develop a Self learning weather Model and renewable forecasting Technology, known as SMT.

The SMT system uses machine learning, Big data and analytics to continuously analyze, learn from and improve solar forecasts derived from a large number of weather models.

In contrast most current forecasting techniques rely on individual weather models that offer a more narrow view of the variables that affect the availability of renewable energy.

IBM approach provides a general platform for renewable energy forecasting, including wind and hydro. It advances the state-of-the-art by using deep machine learning techniques to blend domain data,

information from sensor networks and local weather stations, cloud motion physics derived from sky cameras and satellite observations,

and multiple weather prediction models. The SMT system represents the first time such a broad range of forecasting methods have been integrated onto a single

scalable platform. By improving the accuracy of forecasting, utilities can operate more efficiently and profitably.

That can increase the use of renewable energy sources as a more accepted energy generation option, said Dr. Bri-Mathias Hodge,

who oversees the Transmission and Grid Integration Group at the National Renewable energy Laboratory (NREL), a collaborator in the project.

In 2013, solar was the second-largest source of new electricity generating capacity in the U s,

. exceeded only by natural gas 1. A USA Sunshot Vision Study suggests that solar power could provide as much as 14%of U s. electricity demand by 2030 and 27%by 2050 2. Currently,

there are two main customers for renewable energy forecasting technologies: utility companies and independent system operators (ISOS.

and wind forecasts has required electric utilities to hold higher amounts of energy reserves as compared to conventional energy sources.

but it reduces the amount of electricity demand they observe. The growing aggregate output from all these resources across our region will increasingly change the daily demand curve,

so the ISO will need accurate solar forecasts to help grid operators continue to balance power generation and consumer demand.

The U s. Department of energy Sunshot Initiative is a collaborative national effort that aggressively drives innovation to make solar energy fully cost-competitive with traditional energy sources before the end of the decade.

The team of scientists from IBM and NREL are presenting a paper on their preliminary findings this week at the European Control Conference (ECC 2015) in Linz

Aerial Burton Japanese company engaged in the development and manufacture of displays and has introduced new technology for tactile 3d-image.

It was possible thanks to the use of plasma. In the Aerial Burton once noted that they created a device is absolutely safe for humans,

including those in contact with the plasma. Possibility to work with such displays provide lasers,

that transmit airborne gases enough energy to heat the electrons and force them to leave their orbit ionize the air

and in the process of ionization towards the plasma a air begins to emit light. To achieve this effect allowed the femtosecond laser pulse

initiate simultaneous reaction of 200,000 points in three dimensions at once. Scientists have formed a hologram in the form of hearts, stars and little fairies.

The visible image is a three-dimensional representation of two-dimensional data. Although the technology does not allow to collect a real holodeck.

#Google releases work tools designed for Android phones Google is releasing a set of tools designed for businesses

and employees who want to get work done on Android-powered smartphones setting up a skirmish on another key front of mobile computing.

The technology unveiled Wednesday launches Google's attempt to turn Android phones into the digital hub of people's personal and professional lives.

The expansion will pit Google Inc. against Microsoft corp. and Blackberry Inc . which have been focusing on the corporate market for years.

Google will also be dueling its biggest rival in mobile computing Apple which forged a partnership with IBM last year to build more iphone

and ipad applications tailored for businesses and government agencies. Google and Apple have become so dominant that 96 percent of the smartphones sold last year run on the companies'software according to the research firm IDC.

But most people use those phones to take pictures message their friends check Facebook and Twitter and engage in other personal endeavors.

In many cases people also may check their work email on their phones. But Google and Apple are trying to make it more enticing and convenient for people to transplant their more of their professional lives on to their phones.

As part of that process the companies are rolling out more business-oriented applications and tougher security to make employers feel more comfortable about their workers using their phones for their jobs."

"Our vision is that every employee out there should have enabled a work device in their hands"said Rajen Sheth director of product management for Android's push into the office.

Far more people already own Android phones than iphones a lead that Google hopes works to its advantage in the corporate mobility market.

IDC estimates more than 1 billion Android phones were sold last year compared to 193 million iphones.

The huge disparity has largely been driven by Google's decision to give away its Android phones helping to make the devices running on the software more affordable than iphones.

By design Apple has focused on more affluent consumers. The corporate and government market is appealing because employers are willing to spend more people on applications and security than most consumers.

Google announced its Android for Work program at a conference eight months ago but needed more time to test the technology before its release.

The tools include the ability to create separate personal and professional profiles on the same phone in an effort to reassure workers worried about their bosses snooping on their private lives.

Even though the data is kept in separate silos Google has created a way for work programs and personal apps such as Facebook to appear on the same home screen for convenience.

Android for Work will be automatically available on phones running on the most recent release of the operating system'Lollipop

'or version 5. 0. An Android for Work app can be downloaded to make the package work on phones running older versions of the software.

Google's Play store is also opening a section devoted to work applications s

#Toyota Nissan Honda to jointly support hydrogen station infrastructure development Toyota motor Corp Nissan motor co and Honda motor Co have agreed to work together to help accelerate the development of hydrogen station infrastructure for fuel cell vehicles (FCVS.

Specific measures to be undertaken by the three manufacturers will be determined at a later date. For hydrogen-fueled FCVS to gain popularity it is not only important that attractive products be launched-hydrogen station infrastructure must also be developed.

At present infrastructure companies are making every effort to build such an infrastructure but they face difficulties in installing

and operating hydrogen stations while FCVS are not common on the road. Following the formulation of its Strategic Road Map for Hydrogen

and Fuel cells in June 2014 the Japanese government has highlighted the importance of developing hydrogen station infrastructure as quickly as possible

in order to popularize FCVS. Consequently the government is not only supporting the installation of hydrogen stations by means of subsidies

but has resolved also to introduce a range of additional policies aimed at promoting activities that generate new demand for FCVS including partially subsidizing the cost of operating hydrogen stations.

The three automobile manufacturers hope to both popularize FCVS and ensure that it will be easy to refuel them.

Consequently they have recognized jointly the need for automobile manufacturers to promote the development of hydrogen station infrastructure alongside the government

and infrastructure companies with the aim of working towards achieving the aims of the abovementioned Road Map the source of the government's subsidy support.

The three automobile manufacturers will give careful consideration to concrete initiatives such as underwriting a portion of the expenses involved in the operation of hydrogen stations.

FCVS are expected to play a central role in the drive towards establishing a hydrogen society.

Toyota Nissan and Honda are aiming to contribute to bringing about such a society through ensuring the widespread use of FCVS s

#Sony targets beauty market with'Skin View Camera'Sony Corp will release in Mid-march a system that enables to accurately check the texture, blotches, pores and color of skin with a palm-sized device.

The system, eautyexplorer, is targeted at beauty-treatment clinics, cosmetics makers, beauty product stores, etc. t is a product that proposes mental and physical cares,

said Yasuhiro Ueda, SVP, corporate executive, senior general manager, Image Sensor Business Division, Device Solutions Business Group, Sony.

(2) cloud server using Sony analysis algorithm,(3) Skin Analyzer application software, which runs on a dedicated tablet computer and (4) Skin Viewer smartphone application.

The first, second and third elements are used for customer services at beauty-treatment clinics, cosmetics makers and beauty product stores.

The fourth element is for customers (consumers) who visited them and had checked their skin with the system.

Skin View Camera is a measurement device equipped with a CMOS image sensor, optical lens, LED device and Wifi module. oing forward,

The camera takes images of skin with the CMOS sensor and checks the moisture of the skin with a dedicated sensor.

Measurement data is sent to a cloud server via Wifi. One of the distinguishing features of the new system is that its measurement results are analyzed by a cloud server using SKEP,

an algorithm that Sony developed in 2012. The state of skin is analyzed by applying LED LIGHTS with different wavelengths (such as visible light

which is reflected on skin surface, and near-infrared light, which comes back after passing through the inside of the skin) to skin

and measuring reflected lights with the CMOS sensor. Based on multiple image data that indicate the states of the surface and inside of the skin,

the state of the skin is analyzed from various points of view including texture, blotch and pore. e make use of technologies developed for improving the image qualities of TVS and cameras (for the image analysis),

Sony said. For example, the texture of skin can be evaluated with a high accuracy by analyzing size

uniformity, number, direction, etc. Also, it is possible to visualize an invisible skin state based on the amounts of melanin

and redness contained in the skin. easurement items can be added (because of the use of the cloud server),

Sony said. he more the data, the higher the measurement accuracy. Skin Analyzer shows analysis results on a tablet computer by using five-grade evaluation

and indexes such as skin age so that they can be understood easily. For example, it displays such words as exture:

4. 8, Blotch: 2. 4, Pore: 4. 2, kin age-10 years oldand ily dry.

With Skin Viewer, customers can check data stored on the cloud server with their smartphones and use the data as, for example,

the indexes of the effects of beauty-treatment that they received at clinics. Because the new system is targeted at women,

female employees were assigned for the product planning, design, technology development and marketing. ncluding managers, women account for about 30%(of the employees engaged in the project),

Sony said. Sony is not considering selling the system for general consumers anytime soon. In consideration of the Japanese beauty market

whose scale is about ¥: 650 billion (approx US$5. 5 billion), the company aims to chieve a certain level of presencein the market, it said.

Also, Sony has started a research to apply the new technology to the analysis of scalp e

#Tech identifies users vulnerable to cyberattack based on ways they use their computers Fujitsu Ltd and Fujitsu Laboratories Ltd have announced the development of the industry first technology for identifying users vulnerable to cyberattacks based on the ways they use their computers,

such as their e-mail and web activities. This will make it possible to implement security measures tailored to individuals and organizations.

While there are numerous security measures already in existence, the weakness that most cyberattacks and data breaches take advantage of is human error,

such as, for example, when a user carelessly clicks on a malicious link in a faked e-mail message.

Because this depends on individual traits it is difficult to develop a standardized security measure to defend against it.

Fujitsu and Fujitsu Laboratories used online questionnaires to identify the relationship between the psychological traits

and behavior of people likely to suffer three kinds of attack: virus infections, scams, and data leakage.

At the same time, based on activity logs on PCS, such as when the PCS freeze, they have developed a technology for calculating different usersrisks of being victimized.

This technology could be used to precisely tailor security measures, such as, for example, by displaying individualized warning messages to users who often click on URLS in suspicious e-mail messages without checking them carefully,

or escalating the threat level of suspicious e-mails sent between departments with virus-prone users e

#Technology Fuel cells provide electricity for homes Kyoto-based Steven Rogers is the business development executive for Ceres Power, a British venture company that specialises in solid oxide fuel cells.

This technology can supply 80%of a modern home electricity and heat up all of its water. ost of our money comes from investors,

he says. e are in the process of commercialising technology that originated in Imperial College, London University. eres Power was set up in 2001,

after years of research at the university. e have had several rounds of investment; last year, for example, we received about $35 million of additional investment,

so we have enough cash to see us through for several years of further development.

At the same time, we are developing relationships with partners who will make products based upon our technology,

and then enter the market, he adds. Rogers was a scholar at the Daiwa Foundation, a charity that fosters links between Japan and the UK.

While under its auspices, he learned Japanese and Japanese business practices two vital elements in his role today.

He stresses that Ceres is a echnology not a roductcompany; other firms, including Japanese ones,

will manufacture their fuel cells under licence. Ceres Power brainchild is a remarkably compact fuel cell, the prototypes

of which are made in a state-of-the-art plant in Horsham, southern England. Rogers grasps one of the cells, which,

for display purposes, are housed in a robust plastic coating. The cell is just 1 millimetre thick with a surface area of 80 square centimetres;

100,000 tiny holes drilled by lasers perforate its surface. He adds: fuel cell is like a battery, in a sense;

but if you have a continuous supply of fuel and air, it doesn run out in the same way that a battery does. he cell is made up of three layers cathode, electrolyte and anode

which are supported by a steel frame. Natural gas on one side of the cell, and air on the other, says Rogers,

generate a voltage across the cell. Electrons flow around the circuit, thus the cell effectively works as a battery.

But, unlike a traditional battery, Ceres fuel cells last years. e are targeting 10 years, he states.

A decade equates to about 90 000 hours of use. A typical home needs 120 separate Ceres cells,

000, will provide most of a home electricity. At the same time, he says, the fuel cell process produces heat,

which will be enough to supply a home with all of its hot water needs. Other companies do make similar systems,

Gas is essential to the Ceres fuel cell process. The stacks will be powered by piped gas in the same way that homes are supplied with gas from the mains in the street.

When the householder turns on a light, explains Rogers, the energy-making process will be activated immediately in the fuel cell stack.

The green credentials in this process are connected, in part to the flow of power. Without such a home-generating system,

a typical house gets its electricity, already generated, from a distant power station. But Rogers says that

even in the most efficient gas turbine-driven power station, any large-scale process means an initial loss in energy of 40,

%lost as heat as the fuel is burned. Then, the electricity has to travel by cable and pylon to the consumer,

with an additional 20%of energy lost along the way. By the time the electricity reaches the home,

only 40%of the original energy remains. eat is wasted always if you have centralised power generation,

says Rogers. f you can generate power in the home, you are inherently close to a user of heat.

So you can make use of that heat. ou cannot send heat down a power line;

you can only send electricity. If you compare that to everyone having a power station in their own home, even a little one,

both the user of electricity and the user of heat are there. he Ceres system,

then, is akin to a mini-power station, situated in a home. But, he says, such a system cannot hope to be 100%efficient,

as a small proportion of the electricity generated must be used to power the system own blower,

to keep it cool, and other working parts, such as its pumps. Rogersstrategic location in Kyoto enables him to easily reach the company partners

some being household Japanese company names. He expects the Ceres Power fuel cell technology to reach the market in two and half years. f there was one in every home in Japan, for example,

there would be a very significant reduction in CO2 EMISSIONS, he concludes y
