#Whatsapp For ios Will Receive Voice Calling Feature In A few Weeks Whatsapp the instant messaging app that Facebook acquired for $19 billion last year hit 700 million monthly active users

At the Facebook f8 conference this week, Whatsapp cofounder Brian Acton said that the ios version of the messaging app will gain the highly anticipated free voice calling feature within the next few weeks, according to Venturebeat.

Why did Facebook acquire Whatsapp? During a keynote at Mobile World Congress last year, Facebook CEO Zuckerberg said that the acquisition was linked to his vision for Internet. org.

Internet. org is an initiative to bring the Internet people who do not have access

The amount that Facebook paid for Whatsapp was particularly interesting because the messaging app is far from profitable.

While Facebook generates most of its revenues from advertising, Whatsapp charges 99 cents per year for a subscription after one year of free service.

#Will Payments On Facebook Be Successful? Facebook: The Social Graph Of Payments Today March 17th, 2015 Facebook has entered into payments in a very big way 1. This is perhaps the biggest news in this sector since its inception.

Much like Wechat a sort of Facebook of China along with Alipay with their hundreds of millions of users to send money via instant message.

To become a person to person payment system in the US the company must apply for

and be granted a money transmitter license in every state. Facebook has been approved money transmitter licenses in every US state and territory along with many European and Asian countries.

My good friend Faisal Khan has been researching this for a number of years. In the US

and there is a tipping point where one can be certain that the recipient can be found on Facebook.

It turns out a vast majority of Facebook 500 million monthly users are logged on to Facebook Messenger with about 80 million payment cards on file.

With Facebook Payments, the entire system is built currently around the Messenger platform. Fundamentally person to person payments are a form of deep communication

and Facebook Messenger is a logical jumping off point. A vast majority of person to person payments begin with a conversation, perhaps already within messenger.

How Does Facebook Payments Work? To use the system, the sender will need to associate a US based debit card with a Visa or Mastercard logo to their Facebook account.

If the user already has a debit card on file with Facebook from gaming, advertising, or donations, this can be the default card.

The system will allow for the user to image the card via a camera or to manually enter the card into the setup form.

Specimen of Facebook Payments payment sending sequence. To send money press the button in the Messenger message composer,

Specimen of Facebook Payments payment receipt screen. The money is removed instantly from the sender debit account

and delivered to the recipient Facebook associated debit card. Facebook uses the debit card network and the recipient bank

and can take about 24 hours to become usable. Both sender and recipient will see a confirmation message detailing the transfer status and time.

Along the way, Facebook will send the recipient notices to claim the money. As an added security feature, Facebook may ask users some extra security questions before a transfer can be authorized.

This may take the form of id you ever own a red caror n what city did you live in during the period of 1984 1986 etc.

Banking On Debit cards Facebook is currently a debit card based system and is using a similar system that Square adopted for Square Cash 2,

and optimizations made by Facebook to make the system more fault tolerant and redundant. Facebook is also using more recognized APIS that will have the ability in the future to also allow payments from credit cards using the full extent of systems like Visa VPP API 2. The system will also be able to easily scale to countries outside the US

and localize from a technical standpoint and a regulatory stand point. I am rather certain that Facebook has negotiated with a number of regional debit card networks to lower effective rates that Facebook will pay for each transaction.

This will actually be a win/win for both camps. The debit card networks will see a huge growth of aggregate transactions allowing the networks to continue to be relevant and vital in this new space.

And Facebook will of course see lower costs than most companies in this space. I see this pattern perhaps playing out through the world and thus

By the next Facebook developer conference we may see this presented along with very unique useless for the APIS Facebook most certainly will produce.

Now The Person To Person Payments Party Is Ready To Begin Facebook is entering into a market that has many existing solutions,

including: Google Paypal Venmo Square Banks And others It is very clear that a sort of shakeout will commence that will define competing products and perhaps remove a few products from the market.

Square Square Cash seems to be in a very vulnerable position before Facebook Payments 3 and

Paypal+Venmo Paypal and Venmo will see a challenge from Facebook Payments. There is no doubt about it.

and marketing needed to respond to Facebook. There are many ways that Paypal and Venmo can stay vital and relevant because of the scale they have achieved already.

and a system that will surprise even Facebook. The plans have been in process for quite some time and unlike Facebook

Paypal, Google, and Square, Apple will not handle any payments themselves. High Likelihood Of Success There is little doubt that Facebook will be successful In person to Person payments.

If not just by the size of the user base and the utility this new feature will offer.

even though currently there is no revenue model from Facebook pavements, there is a path where the cards on file will become a source for payments for products and services from merchants.

Specimen of revenue sources at Facebook. The Payment isruptionera Is Now Officially Over In less then 12 months

and listed Apple, Facebook, and retailers themselves. Today, Apple Pay, Facebook Payments, and MCX/Currentc are here.

It was fun times as my thesis and postulations were controversial and constrain. This was the height of the ayments disruptionmania

#Facebook's first satellite will beam Internet to rural Africa starting in 2016 With the exception of a select few locations,

Facebook hopes to change those statistics with a new project in its Internet. org initiative.

As part of this program, Facebook is partnering with French satellite communications provider Eutelsat to beam an Internet connection to remote parts of Africa."

"wrote Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg in a Facebook posting. Facebook is working with Eutelsat to provide Internet access to sub-Saharan portions of Africa via Eutelsat's new AMOS-6 geostationary satellite,

which will cover West, East and Southern Africa. Amazingly, the satellite will deliver affordable broadband Internet using off-the-shelf consumer equipment for connectivity

while Facebook will work locally in Africa to deliver Internet service to rural communities. The satellite-based service is expected to go online in mid-2016.

The African satellite project is part of Facebook's broader Internet. org initiative which debuted in 2013.

Through Internet. org, Facebook wants to connect the world by providing internet access to developing countries worldwide.

Internet. org was criticized highly for providing access only to Facebook and a handful of other web sites and services instead of the full, open internet.

Internet. org responded to critics by recently expanding its service to include any sites that meet Facebook's development criteria a

#Facebook M Is trained and Monitored by Humans, Facebook Reveals Facebook has entered the virtual digital assistant space with a new service for its millions of Messenger users,

known as M. Facebook M is a personal assistant that will be integrated into the main messaging app, Facebook Messenger.

Using this new digital assistant, the users of this application will be able to search for information as well as complete different tasks without the need of manually doing them.

At the moment, Facebook reveals that this service is still in its trial stages and as of now

you will be lucky to be among the first persons to enjoy this new service on Facebook Messenger.

This announcement was made public by the Vice president of Facebook messaging products David Marcus via his Facebook page.

Facebook M can complete the tasks on behalf of the userfacebook M brings something new to the virtual digital assistant space

Facebook M can do just that. For instance, the application can be used to make purchases on your behalf,

Facebook M will actually find the list of items, place an order and get the gift delivered to the desired person.

Facebook M will be using humans to provide users with feedbackeven though Facebook M will be relying a lot on artificial intelligence,

it was noted that this intelligence is trained and supervised by humans. The humans, known as M Trainers, will be composed of non-Facebook employees

and their work will be to ensure that users get the best responses to their queries and on time.

The inclusion of humans in Facebook M is a rather confusing feat as most companies are working to eliminate

It is expected however that Facebook will hire more and more M trainers as the service expands to global users of Messenger.

including Google, Apple, Microsoft and Facebook. The decision is the culmination of a case that Austrian lawyer Max Schrems brought against Facebook in 2013 for participation in US mass surveillance.

It means that The irish Data protection Commission which presides over Facebook data-export operations, is unable to use Safe Harbour as a reason not to investigate Facebook data protection practices in the US.

In a statement, The irish Data protection Commissioner confirmed that Schrems case would be brought back before The irish High court s soon as practicable The ruling also removes the legal blanket that allowed companies to send data gathered in the EU to the US for processing.

It not yet clear whether this will disrupt the day-to-day operation of major technology firms, but their ability to pool data from both sides of the Atlantic for analysis will be affected.

#Facebook Unveils Facebook At work Lets Businesses Create Their Own Social networks About six months ago we reported that Facebook was working on a new product aimed squarely at the enterprise market under the working title B@Work

today the company is launching new ios and Android apps called acebook At Workalong with a version of Facebook At work accessible via its main website

and act like Facebook itself. Facebook At work is now available for download on ios and wel update with a links to the Andriod version once it live though both are usable via a limited pilot to start with.

Check out Josh follow-up story for more screenshots details on privacy and analysis.)Employers can create separate logins for employees to use with their Work accounts

The product puts Facebook head-to-head with the likes of Microsoft Yammer Slack Convo Socialcast and a huge number of others who are trying to tackle the nterprise social networkspace.

Lars Rasmussen the engineering director at Facebook who is heading up the project had in his past once headed up one of the failed efforts at an enterprise social network Google Wave.

Facebook is positioning today debut as a bold first step. ee putting the app into the app stores

In fact Facebook has already been running tests of the service with very small setof external businesses around the world Rasmussen says;

In fact the existing Facebook Groups product is used already by smaller organisations. Because of the early nature of the product there are a lot of questions in the air.

For now Facebook Platform has been disabled on the Work product meaning no ads or apps. That may not always be the case (t could be paidhe says.

Rasmussen says that Facebook has effectively been working on Work for the last 10 years because it is based on

what Facebook own employees have been using to communicate with each other pass on news plan meetings and share documents.

That long-time use and Facebook familiarity to all of us are part of what makes Facebook confident that it can carve a place for itself in a market that already is crowded very. acebook At work strength is spent that wee ten years

and incorporated feedback from 1 billion active usershe says. ll embedded of that is now in the same product

but adapted for different use cases. nd it actually used by staff hen Mark Zuckerberg the CEO makes an announcement he just posts it on Facebook at Workrasmussen says.

In fact Facebook own popularity could be Facebook At work biggest advantage. A lot of efforts in offices to get employees to collaborate more with each other have been stymied

In that vein Facebook At work built essentially on Facebook itself will be arguably the closest of all to an authentic onsumersocial experience.

By making this free Facebook could potentially drive a lot more users to its wider network.

The fact that Rasmussen would not rule out advertising as an option down the road to me suggests that Facebook could consider tiers of its own where some businesses may pay for the product

Plus this would give Facebook another revenue stream beyond ads and app-related payments. How it will work Facebook wouldn show me a demo ahead of the launch

but this is how Rasmussen describes it: hen an employer adopts Facebook At work they can construct it with a set of new accounts.

Users can then link their work and personal accounts together so that they are logged into both at the same time. his would work much like Groups

The content stays entirely within your personal or work Facebook. hat not there/integrations. You can share documents today

but for now there will be no in-app editing urrently. gain that leaves this open as something that will come down the line. he set of features are identitcal to personal Facebook

Hopefully in the future other enterprise tools will integrate with Facebook At work. ackstory on development. Back in June I deduced that Facebook At work was connected with Rasmussen work in London but what

I found out from sources after that report was that this was more than casual: this was his baby.

and the knowledge of a failure of doing this at a different companyhe says referring of course to Google Wave. thought that maybe Facebook experience was

however is one that Facebook will have to continue to grapple with all the more so as it continues to grow.

Canvassing opinion on a Facebook At work product I heard not only once people shy away from the idea concerned with the thought of Facebook wningyour data

#The Bank of Facebook Technology is changing one of the most fundamental mediums that touch every person on the planet:

This past March, Facebook rolled out free peer-to-peer payments and set the company down a path to becoming one of the world most powerful financial institutions.

Facebook isn charging fees on transfers. While the company does incur charges from banks on the back end,

Facebook says it will not pass these on to the consumer. At the moment Facebook transfers are limited to users within the United states,

but sources inside the company have confirmed it will expand beyond U s. borders in the near future.

if Facebook will charge users a nominal fee on cross-border transfers and currency conversions,

According to Steve Davis, product manager at Facebook: ee not trying to make a profit out of payments. acebook is already well on its way to becoming a global financial institution.

Last summer, Financial times discovered that Facebook is close to receiving approval from the Central bank of Ireland to become an electronic money institution throughout Europe.

Long term, Facebook payments has the power to completely destroy Western union and Money Gram (good riddance) and massively benefit millions of people in the developing world with billions of dollars more freely flowing into those countries.

Facebook is in a position to control the lion share of remittances sent globally by offering below market-rate transfers and the best experience on mobile.

The last couple of years have been especially rough for Facebook with North america and European markets reaching saturation.

There is no better way for Facebook to add new users in the developing world than by becoming the de facto app for how they receive their income from abroad.

that possibility pales in comparison to the larger opportunity for Facebook offering a way for people who don use banks now to do e-commerce.

It easy to imagine a world where workers in developing countries are paid through Facebook via peer-to-peer payments,

store their money on Facebook, purchase local goods through transfers, and have the ability to pay for items using Facebook.

The effect that Facebook could have on the world as an electronic financial institution is nothing short of profound.

So why would Facebook facilitate millions of transfers and online purchases for next to nothing?

For one, it puts them closer to attaining the holy grail of datahow users spend their money.

Let not forget that at the end of the day Facebook is most definitely an ad network at its core.

For example, how many of Lamborghini 11 million Facebook fans could actually afford that car? While Facebook could make an educated guess,

it can answer that question with certainty. However, in a world where Facebook could combine financial transactions and social graphs,

advertisers would be given near-perfect information on their audience. No other ad network in the world would be able to match Facebook targeting capabilitiespurchase behavior, income, savings, etc.

Despite the doomsayers, the world future has looked never so bright. Wee currently undergoing a period of massive socioeconomic growth.

Facebook has an incredible opportunity in front of itselfo use technology to change the way the world thinks about money.

I quit using Facebook years ago but maybe, hopefully, Mark Zuckerberg will give me a compelling reason to sign back up b
