#World's Biggest Artificial Wave Crests in The netherlands In The netherlands, two-thirds of the land is prone to flooding and flood-related damages. Since there no way to stop it, Dutch scientists have decided to join in. Theye built a machine capable of creating the world largest artificial wave. The idea is not to flood the country but speed the development of technology that can protect low-lying land. The wave machine, called the Delta Fume, is located in the $29 million Deltares Research Institute near the city of Delft. The machine holds more than 2 million gallons of water pumped in from a reservoir at roughly 265 gallons per second. It generates waves by pushing water back and forth against a wall that nearly 33 feet high. Waves can be produced to mimic anything from rough waters to tsunamis. By generating choppy waters, enormous waves and the like, scientists hope to better test standards for dykes, dunes, dams and barriers designed to defend the land from flooding. So far, the machine biggest wave reached just over 16.4 feet, but the Dutch scientists are on a mission to surpass that height. Scientists hope this approach will assist the country, which has implemented long other strategies such as constructing amphibious homes that can float atop rising waters and building homes on stilts. There also a sense of urgency with scientists predicting that the area will see rising tides and increasingly turbulent waters in the future u
