#El nino Has arrived And May Bring Increased Rain To The West Coast US officials have stated that El niño has arrived finally, but the precipitation brought by the weather event is unlikely to alleviate California severe drought. Federal weather watchers on Thursday said the Pacific ocean current oscillation known as El niño has formed, raising the prospect of a moderate increase in rain for the U s. West Coast. However, the National oceanic and atmospheric administration (NOAA), which issued the El niño update, added that the development is unlikely to have a drastic effect on the drought conditions in Southern California and elsewhere in the West. Mike Halpert an official at the NOAA Climate Prediction Center, said, fter many months of watching, El niño has formed. Unfortunately, this El niño is likely too little, too late and too weak to provide much relief for drought-stricken California as California rainy season is winding down. El niño, a cyclical phenomenon that lasts several years, begins with warming in the middle of the Pacific ocean and eventually affects weather around the world. In the United states, it can lead to storms along the West Coast and affect hurricanes and other tropical storms. Tropical storm activity could be reduced due to El niño but it too soon to know for certain. NOAA stated that they have been noting increased ocean surface temperatures in the equatorial Pacific, a harbinger of the El niño Southern Oscillation. But it was accompanied not by increased convection in the lower atmosphere, typically spawning thunderstorms and weakening surface trade winds. The agency added that because of its weakness, as well as its unusual timing, the El niño isn expected to have much impact on U s. weather patterns, nor bring much relief for drought-stricken California.
